One comment about the CreationismAlgorithm, it is possible for it to return without supernatural intervention. A cosmic particle could strike the CPU just so, causing the solution flag to flip.

Excellent post! I stumbled over an article a while ago where someone used GA on FPGAs to generate a circuit that would output a single bit which was high if a word (like “yes”) was spoken. The generated design was much smaller than any human would have designed, and used interaction between transistors that we would not even have considered. I distinctly remember him describing how he removed a sub-circuit that should theoretically (ideally) have no effect on the output, and finding that it still ruined the circuit. I’m sure you could find some “irreducable complexity” in there if you wanted.

That is a well written response and clearly debunks his claims.

The problem is that Batten doesn’t want a debate, all he is trying to do is to win over the ignorant. He probably completely understands that his arguments are misleading, wrong, and ill conceived but he doesn’t care as long as he can sow doubt in peoples mind he has accomplished something.

It is ok to lie if you lie for Jesus.

But secondly: @SC, I think it’s *really* important to attack these stupid positions dispassionately and comprehensively. If you don’t, these lunatics end up taking up all available mind-space and will even claim that no-one has countered their spurious “arguments”. Towit: Fox News.

Nice debunk of a hugely flawed article, but I think the best thing to do with ID / Creationist fools is to ignore them – completely. You’re never going to change their minds by using any kind of logic – if they could follow logic, they’d not believe the rubbish they do.
